Warmth, sculpted in porcelain
Spheara Lamp
With this piece, I wanted to explore the softness and delicacy of porcelain through hands-on experimentation, I was able to dive into the process of slip casting and really get to know the material. Through this, I have discovered new ways to work with porcelain that highlights its unique qualities and bring out its beauty.
I wanted to experience every step of the making process - constructing plaster moulds, casting slip, moulding the pieces and firing the clay.
Through this journey, I developed a technique for moulding the clay after slip casting to create unique, organic shapes. It was all about timing each stage just right to achieve walls that are thin enough for light to shine through, but strong enough to hold their form without tearing.
This balance brings each piece to life and makes each piece unique.
